1930s 1940s Deco Evening Dress Mahogany Brown Lace With Blue Slip Sz 6
1930s 1940s Deco Evening Dress Mahogany Brown Lace With Blue Slip Sz 6. An original 1930s or 1940s lace evening dress in a mahogany tones rust brown through which can be seen a sparkling satin slip in a lovely light shade of silvery aqua marine (RGB 127255212).

The reddish brown mahogany brown contrasts so well with the pale cyan blue, and the light slip color highlights the design and the wonderful deco seaming on the lace dress. Both pieces are bias cut and deco seamed. The lace dress has shoulder ribbons to snap in the shoulder straps of the slip, and there is a snap on the front V bodice of the lace dress that snaps to another on the front V bodice of the slip to keep the satin slip in place under the lace dress. The lace dress has wonderful elbow length deco sleeves that are split underneath and fall like angel wings when the arms are in certain positions and like regular sleeves when the arms are held in other positions, a crossover bodice front and a draped crossover low back with a defined waist, tiny snaps at the left waist, diamond deco seaming through the hips and derriere for a figure flattering fit, and a wide skirt that flares out from the knees.

The lace is tiny floral. The slip has a similar construction but simpler - the bodice is a V front and a plunging V back, and is bias cut from top to bottom with triangular inserts below the knees to match the flare of the lace dress. I believe the lace dress and the slip are both rayon, but there are no labels for either maker or fabric content on either piece. The exact age of the dress is uncertain - although the deco design and the low plunging back of the two pieces is very 1930s, and the dress snaps shut as was the design in the 1930s, both these design elements and the rayon fabric of the lace dress and the slip make the dress consistent also with the 1940s. So take your pick as this dress could be from either the 1930s or the 1940s - it is not newer than this.

Either way, it is very elegant, so figure flattering, and so Old Hollywood. Bust (pit to pit) 34-36. Sleeves shoulder to point 21" armpit to short underside of sleeve 9". These measurements are roughly equivalent to a US size 6 with lots of room for the bust up to 36 and the waist up to about 30. The dress is shown on my US size 6 model and fits perfectly. Although the lace is very stretchy, and the slip is bias cut, the hip measurement of the slip is the limiting measurement and there is no further room in the hips than 34, but there is some stretch for movement because of the bias cut. I believe the dress would look lovely on a smaller size as well, like a size 4 or 5. The lace is robust and resilient and soft - not dry or brittle at all. There are no major condition issues with the dress or the slip.

Both have been gently laundered and are clean and ready to wear. However, this a vintage dress and slip, both of which are approximately 75 to 85 years old, and there may be some minor age related signs of wear such as a the odd loose thread or tiny pick and possibly a very faint mark near the hem of the slip.

I could find no holes or repairs in the lace, although I cannot exclude the possibility of a few broken brides here and there. Unlike many of the lace dresses that we see from this era, this one appears to be unworn and properly stored and so it would be a superb find for a collector or for someone who wants to wear it to their special 1930s or 1940s themed event. Similarly the slip has also seen little wear and has been stored properly over the years.

We love it when we find textiles in such wonderful original condition as this is rare. Turn heads with this flattering and elegant evening dress from the 1930s or 1940s. This is NOT a reproduction of a cheap imitation, this is an all original 1930s or 1940s mahogany rust brown lace evening dress with art deco detailing that comes with a contrasting pale aqua marine bias cut slip that highlights the deco detailing on the dress. Beautiful worn with long pearls down the back as was the style of the Old Hollywood era (not included). Another amazing, original 1930s or 1940s Old Hollywood deco evening dress, only from Antiquarius Antiques.

We have attempted to describe the item to the best of our abilities, and to point out any flaws. However, we may not have highlighted something that is important to you in the description, so please review the photos carefully as they form part of the description and they show the true condition of the item.

We strive for totally satisfied customers who are happy to leave good feedback, and we are willing to go the extra mile to make you a satisfied customer! Please be aware that vintage clothing is neither new nor perfect. In many cases, vintage clothing has been worn and is no longer new, and that is why it is such a good bargain. Excellent antique or vintage condition rarely means new - do not expect new or perfect as there will almost always be some signs of wear, especially with older items.

Sometimes we sell newer vintage items that are new old stock (NOS) so they have never been worn and can be in such excellent condition that there are no signs of wear. But some of the garments we sell are 75 years old or more, and even if they were never worn, the fabric may show signs of wear just from being stored all those years. Please assume that older vintage and antique items may have a little dust and/or a few age spots, unless we have specifically stated that we have recently laundered the item. Nevertheless, vintage is a great way to dress extravagantly without having an extravagant budget.

You can often find extraordinary examples of antique, vintage or designer items that are wearable textile art and will make you look like a million bucks!
