For yet another 100 years with their new owner! Very soft, cream colour cotton batiste, double ruffle Bridal Princess Petticoat Slip. Seems to have very little wear. Well saved & cared for over a 100+ yrs. As mentioned in other auctions, Edwardian bridal underpinnings for the bride herself as well her attendants, were mainly cream in colour. Larger amounts of lace were used in these underpinnings unlike most simple white, thin lace strapped princess slips. They were so very soft & pretty with extra laces for the event that many of the underpinnings could cost nearly as much as the bride & attendants. The princess slips carried the highest price tag of the underpinnings by far. Princess slips & canes were often given as "memento" gifts for the bridal attendants to be saved for their Trousseau if not yet married. Or worn with their wardrobe afterwards as they wish.

This bridal model of 7 gores & two "V" tapered gussets exhibits a generous amount of Valenciennes lace in her upper bodice area. It is also found in her front & back as well her lace capped sleeve & generous lower exterior ruffle. Above the exterior ruffle is a cotton backed lace panel. From the the deep exterior ruffle begins with 3 alternating rows of.

The multiple gores with tapered upper gussets assure a perfect fit if worn under or over once's corset. A Rare Beauty Awaiting Her New Home!

Slip closes down the back closure placket with 2 hooks & eye closures at the very top. Followed by 5 mother of pearl buttons.

Lace shoulder tops have been reinforced. One period repair to the upper left frontal shoulder.

3 small hand woven period repairs in the. Lower right frontal exterior ruffle.

One mother of pearl button has some yellowing. A period alteration on the base ruffle where it seems a "V" panel was inserted. For possibly more flow of sweep. Stray/fray threads here & there mainly on interior that could use a clipping. Also inner bagged in a ziploc.
