Several national magazines included feature stories on her and her extraordinary artistry. Some items are fully restored pieces, either restored to original condition or refurbished using comparable antique pieces. We are also listing items from her "stash" of restoration pieces so there will be sleeves, skirt flounces, collars, and items that have had no restoration or refurbishment. We will note all of this in the "condition" section for each piece. Oh my, this is SOOO gorgeous!
So, this is a Victorian/ Edwardian era slip that has not been completely sewn. It is in fantastic condition and would make a fabulous heirloom dress, skirt, wedding dress or even a veil. Hand embroidered whitework on cotton Swiss batiste. It is a gored skirt...
The gores were sewn together and then the skirt was embroidered, in the palest blue, with designs of flowers, grapes and leaves. There is some openwork, French knots, etc. After the embroidery was finished, the skirt was never completely put together. However, everything is done except the waistband, which his really perfect because it can be fitted to most any size. We photographed it pinned on the mannequin as it would look if sewn up (and by sewn up, all it needs is a back, center seam and a waistband).
If it were sewn up as it is, the skirt will have a slight train but could easily be re-worked if you prefer. I think there may even be enough fabric to somehow re-work it into a full wedding dress. Ugh, it is just SO, so pretty!
There is a very light amount of aged patina from years of storage, but I did not clean it because I know some collectors don't like the bright white. However, if you wanted it to be bright white, it would sparkle with a gentle cleaning.
Please use the zoom function to see details up close as part of the description. The top, or waist area is 68 wide. The hem or sweep of the flounce is 150. Length is 50" in the front and 70" in the back.
Women's Standard Size Chart (Inches). Please keep in mind that all of our items are true vintage and antique pieces , and are not reproductions. True vintage is special because of the artistry, craftsmanship and high quality fabrics. Collectors understand that these items may require an investment in time to preserve and protect the condition in a way that best suits their preferences so we do not alter, clean, or mend our garments (unless otherwise noted). We use the following size chart as a general rule for determining size by today's standards. Please keep in mind that vintage and antique fabrics have no stretch or "give" like modern clothing and you may need to adjust your sizing to account for that. As perfect and pristine as it was originally. The garment may have never been worn and tags may still be attached. Shows only the slightest bit of wear on an otherwise perfect garment. This means it may have only been worn once or twice. The garment is totally sound in structure and appearance. Any wear is the result of having been worn occasionally, and it is clear that the garment has been well cared for and stored. The garment is wearable with some minor flaws. The flaws could be stains, loose seams, a missing button, or a fallen hem, for example. It is often possible to take a garment found in this condition and mend, alter, or specially treat stains to turn it into a garment in excellent condition. Overall the garment is good, and any flaw still standing does not prevent you from wearing and enjoying it. The garment is wearable, but the dress is no longer in pristine condition.
In this case, you normally could not achieve excellent condition even if repairs are made. That said, often if you love a piece, you will just accept the flaws. These are often vintage clothes that were simply well loved and thus well-worn in their day.
Other times it may be a case where the garment just wasn? Multiple holes, tears, stains, etc. The garment is unwearable but good for pattern making, inspiration and study.
