Many fell apart or were torn while worn when sitting down and became caught on furniture or were repurposed into other projects such as lace table runners, pillows, etc. Or simply tossed out due to the new fashion changes. The metallic trimmed Armcyces need attention.Remove the metallic and make as simple openings without any trim or add vintage cording to close up raw edges. Lovely patterned and detailed lacework. Cotton lace with slight stretch. Tiny cording is throughout the garment. This appears to be hand created.
I can see alot of hand stitching. This may have been made to order gown by the owner for a tailored dress maker to create. Metallic trim is hand stitched to lace net cotton fabric.Heavily detailed both front and back. See photo of gown without slip. This was found with two silk slips. Teal green silk slip and a fuchsia silk slip. The fuchsia slip has silver metallic trim and would not have matched this gown since it has gold metallic trims. So, I think the teal green was worn with this piece. Family knew nothing about who wore it, so, no info on the wearer. Simple filet netting with adornments of petals, leaves, vines, swirls of fine tape lace and corded vines.
Silk slip simple square style, white lace straps, slip on style with snap side closure. Pale white spotting on slip, not seen when worn under lace outer dress. Area's that show loose white thread, most likely sewn to inside of lace dress. Two lower panels with split openings in front and along sides, back panel one solid piece. Small hole along lower back of gown, see photo, easy fix.For it's age this gown is in fantastic condition! Dress clean and with the small repairs needed ready to display or wear.
Bust 40 (slight stretch to lace), waist and hips 40, shoulders 18, length 48, trim measures 1-1/2" to 2-1/2" along the panels and hem. Glorious, glorious is this luscious gown and slip. Slip bust, waist, hips 40, length 38.
I would suggest wearing either a vintage gold silk slip, cream silk or black to show off the gown. Black would compliment this gown and truly bring out the detailing and gold metallic trim. Both gown and slip in good condition.
