Vintage sizes may not correlate with modern sizes. Heck, modern sizes mean nothing anymore! It is recommended that you know your own measurements (bust, waist, hip) and compare those to the item's listed measurements. Be sure to add an inch or two for freedom of movement. It may also help to compare the listing's measurements to a similar item that you already own.A measuring tape is your best friend when collecting vintage clothing. I never go shopping without one anymore.
